Communication and Marketing Manager - CIWY / FIWY

A new role within the organisation, we are looking for an individual to manage CIWY’s communications on a national and international level. This position will be working alongside both FIWY (based in the UK) and CIWY with immediate starting date. The position can be based in Bolivia or in another country. 

Organisation Overview

Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi (CIWY) is a Bolivian NGO that, with the help of volunteers from around the world, works with wildlife and is a leader in increasing public awareness of the environment and its importance in its country. CIWY maintains three Wildlife Centres where it cares for injured or mistreated animals. The organization has been featured in the New York Times and on the BBC, and has the support of the Jane Goodall Institute and The Monkey Sanctuary in England.

Founded in 1992, CIWY has improved the lives of thousands of animals in Bolivia and held campaigns and educational programs in all of the country’s major cities. The main office is located in Villa Tunari, in the Department of Cochabamba. It has an annual budget of $360,000 and a current staff of 20 people, Bolivian and foreign alike. CIWY is also supported by UK based charity Friends of Inti Wara Yassi (FIWY) who helps to recruit volunteers, as well as raising profile and funds.

We are looking to further develop our communications strategy, with prospective and returned volunteers, as well as forging links with national and international conservation organisations.

Job Description

The Communication and Marketing Manager's role is focussed on managing CIWY’s profile on a national and international level. Recruiting and supporting volunteers, maintaining an active community of ex-volunteers and donors, managing and updating CIWY online presence, forging links with national and international organisations are some of the responsibilities of this position. 

Reporting to FIWY in the UK as well as the directors of CIWY in Bolivia, this position will be based in Bolivia or any other country, provided there is a decent internet connection. As such, it is likely to be a home based role.


Main responsibilities include:

  • Recruitment of volunteers, nationally and internationally
  • Management of volunteer reservations
  • Dealing with prospective volunteer email enquiries
  • Management of the CIWY website, updating information as required
  • Management of CIWYs social media profile helping to develop a social media strategy
  • Supporting CIWY’s fundraising activities, managed by FIWY
  • Creation of regular online newsletter updates
  • Creating and managing CIWY advertisement
  • Promoting and supporting an active international supporter base


Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for candidates with the following:

  • Fluent Spanish and English, both written and spoken
  • Experience of having managed websites through content management systems
  • Experience working with database programmes
  • Experience as community manager
  • Knowledge and understanding of social media being used as a marketing tool
  • A strong, confident personality
  • Understanding and sensitivity of Bolivian and international cultures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to adapt to frequently changing priorities and tasks
  • A knowledge of and passion for the work of CIWY


Time Commitment

Candidates must be able to commit to a 12 month period minimum. This is a full-time position.

Salary negotiable depending on experience and location
